Despite what the national media believes, the Pittsburgh Steelers already have their starting QB.

Sure the current depth chart is unofficial, but the man in pole position, Russell Wilson is the starter, and no matter how well Justin Fields plays in training camp, it's going to stay that way heading into the season.

NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah proved as much when sharing what he's heard from the Steelers coaches.

“I’m really pleased with what I heard coming (out) of there with Russ,” Jeremiah said on the Rich Eisen Show. “I know there’s been a lot of talk with him and [Justin] Fields. It’s Russell Wilson’s gig. Everything I’ve been told, they’ve been impressed with how he’s thrown. Throwing with anticipation…

"…The dedication and work ethic has been described to me as off the charts. He’s there all the time,” Jeremiah said. “He’s really worked to get to know his teammates and develop those relationships. They’re really bullish on him.”

Jeremiah's statement aligns with everything I have seen and heard coming out of Pittsburgh, along with The Athletic's Mark Kaboly who has been on top of the Russell Wilson starter narrative from the jump, dispelling any notion of a QB battle

"Zero. I just don't think there's enough time for that," The Athletic's Mark Kaboly told 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh when asked about the chances Justin Fields starts Week 1. "It's more than just being a quarterback. It's being a leader, taking those guys to dinner. It's being that type of leader that they haven't had in a number of years now. So I don't worry about Justin Fields right now. I think you worry about him next year…

"…Sometimes he [Justin Fields] looks like Ben Roethlisberger out there, and sometimes he looks like Mark Malone out there. To be honest with you, that's just how I view it. He needs some more work to be done. You can see the talent. He's easily the most athletic guy out there. I mean, he just makes people look like fools out there in this setting. But you've got to be consistent, and that's what the issue was in Chicago."

So look, anything can happen, it's the National Football League. But barring Russell Wilson's arm falling off mid-training camp, I can't see a world where Fields beats him out, even if that's the scenario fans may want to see
