As expected, Brock Purdy will start for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday despite being placed in the concussion protocol earlier this week.

Purdy's status for the Week 8 game with the Cincinnati Bengals was thrown into doubt when the 49ers placed him in the protocol having revealed he had experienced symptoms on the flight back from their 22-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday.

However, Purdy practiced on Thursday and was full go on Friday, indicating he would be able to retain his position as the 49ers' starting quarterback for their final game before their Week 9 bye.

Purdy appeared to suffer his concussion on a quarterback sneak in the fourth quarter, taking a helmet-to-helmet shot from Vikings linebacker Jordan Hicks.

He threw an interception on his next pass attempt and was then picked off again on the Niners' final series as Purdy attempted to complete a game-winning drive.

Prior to those interceptions, Purdy had produced one of his better performances of an impressive season. He finished 21 of 30 for 272 yards and a touchdown along with his two interceptions.

Former third overall pick Sam Darnold would have started had Purdy not received clearance to play.

The 49ers are aiming to bounce back after successive upset losses to the Cleveland Browns and the Vikings, though they face a Bengals team that is on a two-game winning streak and was on the bye last week.

San Francisco is a 3.5-point favorite against Cincinnati.
