Brock Purdy's continued success with the 49ers is something many NFL observers are still struggling to wrap their head around.

Purdy remains unbeaten in the regular season, having improved to 8-0 in the Niners' Week 3 win over the Giants on Thursday.

Mike Florio discussed why Purdy's superb start is tough for many to accept with Peter King on Friday's edition of 'PFT Live', and ended up settling on perhaps the most ridiculous reasoning possible.

Said Florio: "I think, when you think of a franchise quarterback, you think of Joe Montana, Dan Marino, right? Brock Purdy is just kind of a weird name. It doesn’t sound like a franchise quarterback name. ‘Purdy’ is a little too close to ‘Turdy.’ I just think people have a hard time looking at that name and saying, ‘That’s a franchise quarterback."

After King responded that such an argument was "the most ridiculous point you’ve ever made", Florio doubled down.

"I guarantee you I’m not the only person that’s like, 'Well, that's not a quarterback name,' when he first landed on the radar screen last year,” Florio added "It makes people inclined to say, 'Let’s wait and see.'"

King was not having any of it.

"If Joe Montana’s name was Joe F’ing Horsecrap, he still would have been one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time," said King. "Here’s the thing: You have too much time to think. Go watch a TV show or take a walk instead of ruminating on this crap."

"Not all of us are called King," was Florio's final retort.

It was a remarkable exchange that undoubtedly represented a nadir in the discourse around one of the most incredible stories in recent NFL history.

A quarterback overlooked until the last pick of the 2022 draft becoming one of the most efficient in the NFL may be difficult for people to reconcile, but their struggles in doing so obviously have nothing to do with Purdy's last name.

Provided the marriage between the 49ers' starting signal-caller and an expertly choreographed offense stacked with skill-position talent continues to be a prosperous one, the name Purdy will soon become synonymous with starting caliber quarterback play whether Florio likes it or not.
