Chris Conley isn't a wide receiver of the same caliber as Deebo Samuel, but the San Francisco 49ers are turning to the veteran to help fill the void left by their injured star.
Samuel will miss at least two games with a hairline fracture in his shoulder, the first being the Monday Night Football clash with the Minnesota Vikings.
Hours ahead of kickoff at U.S. Bank Stadium, the 49ers confirmed they have elevated Conley from the practice squad for the Week 7 meeting with the Vikings.
Conley's lone appearance this season came in the Week 3 win over the New York Giants, when he was elevated to compensate for the injury-enforced absence of Brandon Aiyuk. Conley did not have a touch in the win.
San Francisco also elevated cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles to the gameday roster.
Jean-Charles played against the Giants and featured in last week's loss to the Cleveland Browns, making two tackles.
Having now received his third elevation, Jean-Charles cannot be promoted from the practice squad again. If the 49ers want to utilize him for further games this season, they will need to promote the former Packer to the active roster.
49ers’ Christian McCaffrey decision could prove to be a season-defining gamble
San Francisco’s tailback will be out there in primetime.
