The 49ers came out of their Week 1 win over the Steelers free of significant injuries, but they have a seemingly minor one to monitor going into the Week 2 clash with the Rams.

Kyle Shanahan revealed in his Wednesday press conference that linebacker Dre Greenlaw will not practice because of a groin issue.

However, the head coach calmed any panic over the injury, describing it as "wear and tear".

Still, given Greenlaw's importance to the 49ers as their starting weakside linebacker next to Fred Warner, his absence from the opening practice of the game week is cause for at least some concern.

Greenlaw was all over the field as the 49er defense dominated in the 30-7 win in Pittsburgh, registering six tackles and a tackle for loss.

The fifth-round pick out of Arkansas has not played a full season since his rookie year of 2019, though he played 15 games in an impressive 2022 season.

If Greenlaw does not recover to face the Rams, starting SAM linebacker Oren Burks would likely take his place, with Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, Jalen Graham and Dee Winters all potential candidates to fill in for Burks. The 49ers elevated Curtis Robinson from the practice squad last week. He was active against the Steelers over both Graham and Winters.
