The 49ers did not practice on Monday ahead of their Thursday Night Football clash with the Giants.
Had they done so, Brandon Aiyuk would not have been present.
San Francisco released its estimated practice report for Monday, and it will serve to raise concern that Aiyuk, who battled through a shoulder injury in the Niners' Week 2 win over the Rams, will not feature in primetime.
Here's the estimated report:
| Player | Injury | Wednesday |
|---|---|---|
Brandon Aiyuk | Shoulder | Did Not Participate |
Ambry Thomas | Knee | Limited |
Injury report observations
Given the 49ers did not practice, it's tough to read too much into the report, though it would appear at least at this early juncture that Ambry Thomas has a greater chance of playing than Aiyuk.
Aiyuk is pivotal to the 49er offense but, for a team that has designs on playing in the final game of the season in Las Vegas, the Niners might see deciding not to risk him for a game in which they are heavy favorites as the smarter move.
Thomas has played much more than many would have anticipated back in training camp, having earned the trust of the coaching staff with a strong camp and preseason, serving as the starting outside corner on nickel downs when Deommodore Lenoir has kicked inside.
But, following Isaiah Oliver's high impact performance in Week 2, the 49ers may be willing to also let Thomas sit out and have Oliver play the full complement of snaps in the slot.
