The San Francisco 49ers play their home opener in primetime on Thursday when they welcome the New York Giants to Levi's Stadium.
San Francisco is 2-0 after the Niners followed up a season-opening rout of the Pittsburgh Steelers by holding off a spirited Los Angeles Rams team in Week 2.
The 49ers are heavy favorites to move to 3-0 with the Giants banged up and coming off a thoroughly unconvincing win over the Cardinals last Sunday.

Will Brandon Aiyuk be available?
Aiyuk was the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after his red-hot start to the season against the Steelers, but a shoulder injury suffered on the first series against the Rams limited his impact in Week 2.
Aiyuk took part in two limited practices during the short week of preparation and was listed as questionable on the final injury report, with John Lynch indicating he will likely be a game-time decision.
Can the 49ers take away Jones' legs?
With the Giants missing running back Saquon Barkley and starting offensive linemen Andrew Thomas and Ben Bredeson through injury, the greatest threat to the 49ers' defense would appear to be the legs of Daniel Jones.
Dual-threat quarterbacks have consistently caused this much-vaunted defense huge problems. The 49ers' ability to contain Jones and prevent him from doing damage on the ground may well decide how close this contest is.
3 Players to watch
- QB Brock Purdy: Including the postseason, this is officially Brock Purdy's 11th start. But it's tough to really count the NFC title game in Philadelphia where he was injured on the first series. So, let's say it's start No. 10 for Purdy who, after a game in Los Angeles in which he was frustrated by a series of deep misses, will be keen to put on a show in primetime.
- WR Deebo Samuel: If Aiyuk is unable to go, there will be a much greater emphasis on Samuel in the receiving game. The good news: Samuel was impressive last week against the Rams and should have little difficultly excelling against a vulnerable Giants defense.
- DE Nick Bosa: The reigning Defensive Player of the Year does not have a sack since becoming the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. He has, however, got consistent pressure. The focus on Bosa this week, however, is less about what he does as a pass rusher and more about his performance in keeping contain and preventing Jones getting outside on the move. If he does that, the Niners will be in excellent shape.
