With the new league year comes the end of an era for the San Francisco 49ers.

As the NFL officially turned the page to the 2024, the 49ers confirmed the release of defensive tackle Arik Armstead.

Armstead was the 49ers' longest-tenured player, having been picked in the first round in 2015, but his refusal to take a pay cut led to San Francisco's decision to release him.

Per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, the 49ers have designated Armstead's departure as a post-June 1 release, saving them $18 million against the salary cap.

Armstead, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, has interest from the Houston Texans, Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions. Matt Barrows of The Athletic mentioned the Buffalo Bills a team to watch, while Diana Russini labeled the Tennessee Titans as a team expected to have interest.

The 49ers have also lost Javon Kinlaw from the defensive line. Kinlaw signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets.

To compensate for their departures, the 49ers signed former Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Jordan Elliott to a two-year deal and traded a seventh-round pick to the Texans for Maliek Collins.
