Nick Bosa's training camp absence clearly of no concern to Kyle Shanahan

Fans did not get the chance to see Nick Bosa at 49ers training camp this year as practices open to the public came to an end on Monday with no sign of an imminent agreement on a contract extension for the star edge rusher.
For now everyone outside of those at the negotiating table remains in the dark on when the two sides will reach a resolution, including Kyle Shanahan.
But the 49ers head coach is content being out of the loop and, as San Francisco prepares for joint practices with the Raiders this week, has absolutely no concern about the amount of time the reigning Defensive Player of the Year has spent away from the team.
Speaking in his post-practice press conference, Shanahan was asked if he had enquired with John Lynch and those in the front office about the progress of contract talks.
"Definitely not. There’s not much to ask. I don’t know if Bosa’s ever done a training camp, and he’s done pretty good. Everybody wants people here and you want to do that stuff, but it doesn’t affect the team as much from a d-end standpoint. I have as much confidence in Nick as any player I’ve ever been around in terms of how he prepares. I know they’re going to get it right on both sides and I’m excited for when I do see him."
Bosa has, of course, been at training camp before, but his had his preparations for previous seasons disrupted.
His rookie year he suffered a hamstring injury on the second day of OTAs. The entirety of the offseason program and training camp was essentially wiped out by the pandemic in 2020 and Bosa was recovering from an ACL injury ahead of the 2021 season. Last year was the first in which he was fully healthy for training camp, but the 49ers did not risk him in preseason.
In fact, Bosa has never played a preseason game in his pro career but, as his outstanding production has consistently illustrated, he has not needed any such tune-ups.
A three-time Pro Bowler and a first-team All-Pro last year, Bosa is on a Hall of Fame trajectory in part because of the way he looks after his body in the offseason.
The 49ers obviously want to get a deal that may make him the highest-paid defensive player ever done sooner rather than later, but history says they can have confidence Bosa will be ready for Week 1 even if this impasse drags on a little longer than they hoped.
Kyle Shanahan leaves no doubt Brock Purdy will be ready for Week 1
The 49ers head coach could not have been more clear.
