It may be Super Bowl week, but it's also time for the 2024 College Football Recruiting Class to be finalized on National Signing Day this Wednesday, February 7th.
The traditional spring National Signing Day certainly isn't what it once was with the Early Signing Period in December leading to more than 90% of blue chip recruits signing their letter of intent before the New Year.
As of this writing, on the eve of National Signing Day, just eight of the top 300 recruits in the 247Sports Composite Rankings are unsigned. But who are those top remaining blue chip recruits who have yet to official sign on the dotted line?
Ryan Williams, WR (Alabama Commit)
Ryan Williams is a phenomenal five star wide receiver with elite explosive ability both before and after the catch. He ran a sub-10.5-second 100-meter time in the spring of his sophomore year of high school and dominated Alabama 6A competition racking up nearly 1600 total yard from scrimmage and 26 touchdowns as a junior. What makes him most intriguing though?
Williams should still be a junior in high school, but he's reclassifying to 2024 to get on campus a year early. Auburn thought they might flip him their way, but it seems he'll still be signing with Alabama on Wednesday. If you want to check out just how special he is, here are his highlights from last fall.
Terry Bussey, ATH (Texas A&M Commit)
Terry Bussey is a five star athlete, and perhaps the most versatile recruit in the entire 2024 recruiting class. Bussey threw for over 2000 yards, ran for more than 2500, and totaled over 100 tackles in his junior season alone. He played both quarterback and defensive back in high school, but can play a number of positions.
The four-sport athlete likely projects to play wide receiver or defensive back at the next level given his elite athletic profile, but where will he play his football? He's still committed to Texas A&M, but he has taken visits to both LSU and Georgia in the last two weeks. Bussey will be one to watch on National Signing Day and there's real noise he could flip at the last minute.
Dominick McKinley, DL (LSU Commit)
Dominick McKinley is a monstrous 6'6", 280-pound defensive lineman whose high school film is truly impressive. The five star defensive lineman looked like a man among boys even against top 5A Louisiana high school football competition. He could immediately slot in as a starting defensive tackle for an SEC team.
McKinley decommitted from Texas A&M back in December, but the Aggies are still hoping to flip him from LSU on National Signing Day.
Gatlin Bair, WR (Oregon Commit)
Although the industry consensus ranks him as a high four star recruit overall, 247Sports actually rated Gatlin Bair as a five star player in the 2024 recruiting class. Why? For starters he has a verified 10.15-second 100-meter time on his record. That's quite literally Tyreek Hill speed. If you doubt the wheels, just check it out here for yourself in his senior highlights.
Bair has been a prime target for some of the top schools in the nation with offers from nearly 30 different schools, and the attention as ramped up since he decommitted from Boise State in December. However, the Oregon Ducks seem to have things all but wrapped with him as he publicly announced his commitment just this week.
Noah Carter, EDGE (Alabama Commit)
Alabama is losing both Dallas Turner and Chris Braswell to the NFL Draft (among others) this spring, so the Crimson Tide need to restock their edge rusher room. Noah Carter fits the Dallas Turner mold perfectly with speed, flexibility, and burst off the line.
Carter was a bit of a late riser in the recruiting process, but don't let that fool you. He dominated on both sides of the ball in his senior season with 11 sacks and double digit touchdowns on offense and special teams.
Carter was committed to Washington, but it seems he'll be following Kalen DeBoer to his new coaching home officially when he signs on Wednesday.
