Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid provided his final injury update on the week on Friday ahead of the team's Week 12 tilt with the Las Vegas Raiders.

As the team continues to seek consistency on the offensive side of the ball, a wide receiver and a running back have been ruled out for the AFC West contest. Reid confirmed that this development could pave the way for another receiver to make his impact felt both on offense and special teams.

Here's all the latest on the injury front for the Chiefs:

Richie James could be active for the first time since Week 2 in Jacksonville:

The team's only free agent acquisition at WR this offseason, James was sidelined by a knee injury early in the season. After using all three weeks of the practice window after being designated to return, James could be ready to take another crack at playing football in Kansas City.

Dave Toub told reporters earlier this week that James was the team's preferred option as a return specialist if he were healthy. He also could play a role on offense, too.

"Yeah, I mean, we activated him last week," Reid said of James. "So, there's a chance that he's up (for Week 12), yeah."

As the Chiefs seek a reliable receiving option, the return of James could prove to be a boon to the offense. NFL Next Gen Stats named James the NFL's most reliable receiver of the 2022 NFL season. Perhaps his presence can help jump-start the offense, especially in the second half of games.

Observations:

  • Without RB Jerick McKinnon look for the Chiefs to use the final practice squad elevation for RB La'Mical Perine.
  • While Blaine Gabbert was given no game status, watch that situation closely. The only other quarterback the Chiefs have outside of Mahomes and Gabbert is practice squad QB Chris Oladokun. He must be elevated to the 53-man roster to serve as the emergency third-string QB.
