The Kansas City Chiefs are getting a bit healthier ahead of their matchup against the Chicago Bears in Week 3.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid updated reporters on the injury situation after practice on Friday.

"As far as injuries go, the guys that didn't practice today were (Nick) Bolton and Richie James," Reid said. "So, they're making progress, they just weren't able to practice. Kadarius (Toney) practiced and Willie (Gay Jr.) practiced, they were the other guys who were hurt a little bit. (Isiah) Pacheco, he's practicing."

Both LB Nick Bolton and WR Richie James missed all three practice sessions, which doesn't bode well for their chances to play in Week 3. If Bolton is out, Reid confirmed what we explained on Thursday, Drue Tranquill is likely to be the team's choice for MIKE linebacker.

Reid's update on Toney was rather positive. Asked about whether he made it through practice OK on Friday, Reid confirmed he had a good workout.

"I think so," Reid said. "I mean, we just finished, so I'll see. I mean, he was good at the end (of practice)."

Observations:

  • Holding out Bolton and James even though they're improving is probably a wise decision for the long term.
  • It sounds as if Toney's injury isn't significant, but I'd still look to limit his role so as to not aggravate the toe issue.
  • Expect that both Pacheco and Gay Jr. will play on Sunday with no limitations despite being listed as questionable.
