Joe Burrow received some criticism back in February when he was spotted partying after the Cincinnati Bengals' loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI.
On Wednesday, during an appearance on the "Full Send Podcast", Burrow explained why he decided to "party" after losing the Super Bowl.
It had a lot to do with…Kurt Warner?
That's right. Hall of Famer Kurt Warner inspired Burrow to party it up despite not winning the Super Bowl.
"Kurt Warner said something — when he lost the Super Bowl, he regretted not celebrating what they had accomplished," said Burrow.
"After the game, I was like 'yeah it sucks, we just lost the Super Bowl, but we did something really cool'. And I wanted to celebrate with the guys about what we did for the year and the success that we had, rather than sitting in a corner and sulking about the game we just lost."
It's hard to disagree with Burrow. No one expected the Bengals to make the playoffs in 2021, let alone reach the Super Bowl. That team deserved to celebrate what they accomplished.
However, that doesn't mean the loss to the Rams didn't sting. We saw this week that Burrow and the Bengals are motivated to improve this season.
"I'm not going to accept losing," said Burrow on Tuesday.
I'm not sure there's anyone in the NFL more competitive than Burrow. If he wants to hang out with Kid Cudi and enjoy himself after a long season, I don't see any issue with it and neither should anyone else.
