The Buffalo Bills may, in fact, be buyers before the upcoming NFL trade deadline. While many of the Bills Mafia are pounding the table for a DeAndre Hopkins or Derrick Henry-esque trade, it appears Brandon Beane might be focusing on the opposite side of the football.
Benjamin Allbright, Broncos insider at KOA Colorado, broke the news that Buffalo was among a few teams that have shown interest in trading for Chicago Bears CB Jaylon Johnson.
In a response to a previous tweet, Allbright discussed that Buffalo and Dallas, along with San Francisco, had shown some interest in the budding star. With Chicago struggling and looking to secure multiple top-five picks in the draft, the move makes sense.
The Buffalo Bills had lost their All-Pro CB Tre'Davious White to an Achilles injury, knocking him out for the season. Since his injury, Buffalo has even gone as far as to sign and activate Josh Norman to bring in some help at that position, leaving Kaiir Elam a healthy scratch. The former first-round pick just hasn't seen the field this season with Christian Benford and Dane Jackson getting the nod over him on gameday.
While Jackson has shown flashes, the team could use some reinforcements and a dominant CB at the position. Throughout his short NFL career, Johnson has amassed 143 total tackles, 3 interceptions with a touchdown over 45 games played.
Brandon Beane had recently restructured the contract of LT Dion Dawkins to free up some extra cap space, maybe this was in anticipation of the front office taking a swing to bring in a player like Johnson.
With the trade deadline rapidly approaching, if Buffalo were to make a move it would be fairly quickly. Let's see if Brandon Beane has any more magic up his sleeve and can bring in some help to a depleted defensive unit.
