The Buffalo Bills losing All-Pro CB Tre'Davious White to the season hurts, much like losing Von Miller last season hurts.

Rightfully so, the Bills Mafia may be having a hard time enjoying the victory (even though it was freaking awesome) after the news broke that White in fact would be lost for the season with an Achilles injury.

Now that we finally have answers, it's time to look at what the Buffalo Bills are going to do at the position.

There's a very real chance Brandon Beane could start picking up the phone and calling some free agents, but Buffalo isn't sitting in the most ideal position from a cap space perspective. Luckily for them, they have a first-round CB on their roster: Kaiir Elam.

Elam showed flashes late last season, even putting up an MVP-worthy performance against the Miami Dolphins in a playoff contest. Unfortunately, he's been on the outside looking in and has been a healthy scratch for the team's first four games of the season.

With Christian Benford being dinged up in the contest, and Taron Johnson suffering an injury himself, Elam is undoubtedly going to get called up to the active roster and be expected to compete early and often. Some parts of the Bills Mafia have been perplexed that the former first-round pick hasn't been available yet this season, but he's about to be.

As we mentioned, the CB room is dwindling but still chock-full of talent. Christian Benford, if healthy, would get the start opposite Elam allowing Dane Jackson to be waiting in the wings in case anything happens (knocks on wood). So, in essence, here's what the starting secondary would be for Buffalo. There's still a chance Jackson could earn the start over Elam (don't be mad):

  • CB: Christian Benford
  • CB: Kaiir Elam
  • Nickel CB: Taron Johnson

Elam was brought in hoping to be a game-changing CB opposite Tre White when the Bills took him in the first round. Unfortunately for him, Brandon Beane wound up making a splash in the late rounds by picking up Benford.

Riding the hypothetical train for a moment, here are the current free-agent CBs available on the market. Do you think any of them would be better than what's currently on the roster? With the cap situation in mind.

  • Byron Jones
  • William Jackson
  • Bradley Roby
  • Casey Hayward
  • Eric Rowe

As we mentioned, Buffalo will probably look within unless Brandon Beane has a few moves up his sleeve. He's surprised us before, maybe he'll do it again.
