The Chicago Bears officially have the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft thanks to their Week 18 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and the Houston Texans' win against the Indianapolis Colts.

Bears fans, however, shouldn't get too attached to the No. 1 pick — Chicago will almost certainly trade it.

The Bears don't need a quarterback with Justin Fields looking like a legitimate superstar at times this season. Chicago has plenty of other needs. And they can use the No. 1 pick to trade down and acquire more draft capital.

I'm sure the Bears will receive plenty of phone calls over the next couple of months about the No. 1 pick.

And there's one specific trade scenario that makes the most sense for Chicago.

I think the best trade partner for the Bears would be the Colts.

Indianapolis has the No. 4 pick and they need a quarterback.

Houston, Indy's AFC South division rival, has the No. 2 pick and they also need a quarterback.

The Colts could be motivated to trade in front of the Texans so they can be sure to get the quarterback they want ahead of their division rival.

If the Bears trade down to No. 4, they'd add some extra draft picks and they'd be almost guaranteed to end up with either Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson or Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter (essentially, Chicago would get whichever player the Arizona Cardinals don't take).

Not only can the Bears still get a potential instant impact player with this trade, but they'd probably get a nice draft pick haul as well from the Colts — since Indy will be motivated to move ahead of their division rival.

I'm sure there will be other scenarios that will be attractive to the Bears, but I think this is the scenario that makes the most sense for general manager Ryan Poles to pursue.
