CHICAGO – The Bears gave up a league-high 58 sacks in 2021 and so far, they haven't done enough to completely solve the problem.

So it makes sense that they would bring in veteran players in hopes of inching closer toward a solution.

That's exactly what they did Thursday. Per ESPN's Field Yates, the Bears tried out veterans Caleb Benenoch, Trent Scott, and Julie'n Davenport.

Of the three, Scott and Davenport have the most game experience with 53 and 60 game appearances, respectively. Both players also combined for nine starts in 2021. Benenoch was the Buccaneers' starter at right guard during the 2018 season, but has appeared in just two games since. His lone start in 2021 came at right tackle, so it looks like he has changed positions over the last couple of years, as well.

The Bears currently have Teven Jenkins and Larry Borom slated to be their starting tackles in 2022. It's unclear as to which side either player plays and there are questions surrounding both players. The Bears also need help at receiver and tight end and they have just six draft picks to go along with zero first-rounders, so it's very likely they won't be able to immediately address their concerns through the draft.

However, it's also doubtful they'll immediately address their needs on the offensive line through tryouts such as this. But you can't blame the Bears for trying. It's what they have to do, at the end of the day. Especially after striking out on Ryan Bates and getting held up by Larry Ogunjobi in free agency.

And who knows? Maybe they'll find a temporary solution. Or, they could find decent depth. Either way, they've gotta keep Justin Fields upright in 2022 and this at least shows they're doing everything they can to try and make that happen.
