The Chicago Bears will spend the next couple of months sorting through every possible scenario as it holds the No. overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The most likely option for Chicago is to move back in the draft and acquire more draft capital in exchange for the top selection. One player who the Bears could target after trading down a few picks is Northwestern LT Peter Skoronski.
Skoronski is a Chicago native, who started in every game during his three seasons at Northwestern. In 2022, Skoronski was named a first-team All American while he was also voted the Big Ten’s Offensive Lineman of the Year.
As for how he projects at the next level, Skoronski opened up on 670 The Score's Parkins & Spiegel.
“I’ll play anywhere where anyone asks me to play. So, if that’s guard, center, or tackle, I’l play it.” Skoronski said. “I do think I can play tackle in the NFL. I think I proved that in college with my tape.”
Nobody is Perfect
There is one concern relating to the highest rated offensive line prospect in the draft, though. He bleeds green and gold.
“I’m not a Bears fan,” Skoronski admitted. “This is a little bit controversial being from Chicago. My grandfather actually played for the Green Bay Packers under Lombardi, so I’ve always been a Packers fan despite growing up in Chicago."
His grandfather, Bob Skoronski, is in the Packers’ Hall of Fame. After being drafted in 1956, Skoronski served two years in the Air Force before returning to Green Bay and winning five championships, including Super Bowls I and II.
However, Skoronski’s Packers fandom isn’t getting in the way of a potential fit with his hometown Bears.
“I have a ton of respect for the Bears. I’ve been in this city my whole life, I played football here in college. I know how great of a fanbase the Bears have. Obviously they’ve got a great quarterback now. It would be a dream to stay home and play in my own city and play for that franchise if it came to that. I’m not gonna be some Packers fan like, ‘Oh, I won’t play for them.’ It would be an honor to play for that franchise for sure.”
