The Chicago Bears hired Matt Eberflus this offseason to replace Matt Nagy because they believe he can quickly change the franchise's culture.
Eberflus is known as a demanding coach, but he's not over the top. He has a method to his madness. It's called the H.I.T.S. system.
- H: Hustle
- I: Intensity
- T: Taking the ball away
- S: Situationally smart
Eberflus' system is all about playing with passion and high intensity while also playing smart. It's the cornerstone of his football philosophy. H.I.T.S. is something that Bears fans will be seeing/hearing a lot in 2022.
And for good reason — it works. The players believe in it. This isn't some corny cliché that will generate eye-rolls from players in team meetings. It's something that players respond well to during practice/meetings.
Just listen to what Pro-Bowl defensive back Kenny Moore had to say about it last summer when Moore and Eberflus were with the Indianapolis Colts together.
"The way he’s taught us about passion, intensity and taking the ball away and being situationally smart, he’s ingrained that in us," said Moore last year (via ESPN). "We love coach Flus.”

A few months after making those comments, Moore was elected to his first career Pro-Bowl.
It's not just Eberflus' former players that recognize that his system works. Opposing coaches see it, too.
“What makes it work is the players believe it and see it, and we know there is tangible proof that it works and that it matters," said Eberflus' former boss, Colts head coach Frank Reich, last year.
“Every week someone on the opposing coaching staff is going to go out of their way to walk over to me and say, ‘Man, I really respect how hard your defense plays, how much they run to the ball.’ I think that’s a testament to our players, but I also think to Flus and the defensive coaching staff for that accountability. That it’s a group thing together.”
Things are about to change in Chicago in a big way. I think the Bears may have just hired the next big-time NFL head coach.
