The general consensus over the last few weeks seems to be that the Chicago Bears will take a wide receiver or maybe an offensive lineman in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

ESPN's Mel Kiper, however, doesn't think that will be the case.

In Kiper's latest mock draft, he has the Bears taking Washington cornerback Kyler Gordon with the No. 39 overall pick (which is Chicago's first selection in the draft).

From ESPN:

The Bears could go several ways here, including offensive tackle, wide receiver and guard. With Gordon still available, though, I'd pounce. He has lockdown traits and didn't allow a single touchdown in coverage last season. There has been a great history of teams finding starting corners in the second round, and Gordon has a great chance to play early.

I don't think this would be a bad pick for the Bears. Taking a wide receiver would be ideal, but Chicago doesn't need to reach, either.

With the Bears not having a first-round pick, it's imperative that they hit on their second-round pick. That means they need to take the best player available. A team can never have enough quality cornerbacks, so if the best player available is a cornerback, then it makes sense for the Bears.

But if a player like wide receiver George Pickens or wide receiver Christian Watson is available, then that absolutely needs to be the pick for Chicago.
