After making back-to-back AFC Championship games and nearly winning their first Lombardi Trophy in the process, the Cincinnati Bengals have had to watch this year's NFL playoffs from home.
Injuries and regression got in the way of another deep postseason run, but how likely can the Bengals recapture their playoff magic from two years ago?
Early signs point to very likely, at least compared to most NFL clubs.
Per The Draft Network's Jaime Eisner, DraftKings Sportsbook has the Bengals at 12/1 odds for winning next year's Super Bowl. Only the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, and Buffalo Bills have better odds to win it all.
The Bengals are tied with the Detroit Lions with the fifth-best odds.
Notable teams that fall below the Bengals are the Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, and Los Angeles Rams.
What do these teams all have in common? They made this year's playoffs just like the teams with better odds than the Bengals.
That means that DraftKings believes the Bengals have the best chance out of any non-playoff team from 2023 to not only make the playoffs in 2024, but to win the whole damn thing.
It's a virtual guarantee that several teams make the playoffs after missing out the previous year. The Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Lions, Packers, Rams, and Texans were this year's examples.
The Bengals know this phenomenon very well. The year prior to their appearance in Super Bowl LVI, they were 4-11-1 and picked fifth in the NFL Draft. They won't have to climb that far again to reach the cusp of the mountain top, having gone 9-8 this past season and barely missing out on the playoffs.
That no other non-playoff team has similar odds to winning the Super Bowl as the Bengals do is a big sign of respect, and a good reason for being optimistic about a possible bounce-back year for Cincinnati.
