An intense rivalry has been brewing between the Cincinnati Bengals and Tennessee Titans of late, and things nearly reached a boiling point during the last meeting.
Bengals center Ted Karras got into it with Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons towards the end of the Bengals' 20-13 victory last season in Nashville. Simmons ended up punching Karras, leaving the leader of the Bengals' offensive line fired up walking off the field, sharing expletives towards the Titans' home crowd. *video below features said expletives*
With a rematch just days away, Karras stands by his viral moment, partly because he was grateful the things he said towards Simmons and the Titans didn't get caught on any mic.
"No regrets. It is what it is," Karras told Pro Football Network's Jay Morrison. "Justice was served, he got fined $11k grand. We're gonna be back, it's gonna be a grit-fest again. I'm sure they'll have some for me. It wasn't particularly at the Tennessee fans, but that's what it was. I'm glad they didn't get the stuff I was yelling at the Titans before that."
A moment that charged up plenty of Bengals fans surely had a similar effect towards the opposition. This is the third time in the last two calendar years the Bengals will be playing the Titans on the road, and the environment has only gotten tougher.
Both of the previous meetings in Nashville have been low-scoring slugfests, and Karras expects nothing different come Sunday.
"It's a game of a lot of emotion," Karras said. "It's gonna be another battle. This is a team built like an AFC North team. Big physical people."
Hopefully the battle stays between the whistle this time.
