The Cincinnati Bengals are set to host the Houston Texans this weekend at Paycor Stadium, which means two former Ohio State Buckeyes will go head-to-head.
Texans quarterback CJ Stroud was a star player for the Buckeyes from 2020 to 2022 (he redshirted as a freshman in 2020), while Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was a backup for Ohio State from 2015 to 2017 before transferring to LSU for his final two seasons of eligibility.
On Wednesday, Stroud was asked about Burrow. And the rookie quarterback gave the Bengals quarterback quite a compliment.
"He's having a great season so far," said Stroud. "Definitely think that he's an MVP in this league. He's a top five player every year. He's shown that ever since his second year. Really, he had a really good rookie year as well, but sadly got hurt. A lot of things to learn from that guy. He's a hell of a leader and a good person….he's shot me texts over the years and congratulated me on some success and gave me some advice. Shoutout to Joe, man."
It's clear that Stroud has a ton of respect for Burrow. So I wouldn't expect any trash talk between the two sides leading up to Sunday's game.
Though once the game is underway, all bets are off. Burrow tends to "black out" and say things he doesn't even remember when he gets into that competitive mindset on game day.
