Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has a reputation for being a cool, confident quarterback that rarely gets flustered and always seems to be in control.

It’s a reputation that Burrow has earned organically. He doesn’t try to have “swagger”, it’s just who he is as a person. And it’s something that his former college teammates noticed immediately after meeting him.

LSU Tigers wide receiver Jontre Kirklin recently detailed meeting Burrow in 2018 and he described the young quarterback as “cocky”.

“[The] first time I met Joe Burrow I think he was on his official visit,” said Kirklin to WAFB in Baton Rouge. “Everybody was saying how Joe Burrow came in and he was this cocky guy with long hair. He came in, he was like ‘where’s the food at?’. He wasn’t worried about trying to see the facility, he was like ‘where the food at, where can I lay down, I’m trying to take a nap’. I was just like man this guy is cocky as all outdoors.”

Kirklin was quick to add that Burrow is a “great guy” who is “super quiet to himself”.

The former LSU wide receiver also detailed Burrow’s incredible work ethic in college.

“Right after practice, he’d be the last one leaving, sitting at his locker, criss-cross applesauce just staring into space. And I asked him ‘what do you think about bro?’, he was like ‘man I’m just going through practice, seeing everything in my head’.”

“He was super tuned in,” added Kirklin.

There’s no doubt that Burrow has some traits that make him a special player. His confidence, attention to detail, and ability to be an elite leader are just a few of the attributes that have helped Burrow go from an afterthought at Ohio State to a household name in the span of just a few years.
