Modern-day college football has changed the very fabric of the sport.
Gone are the days of waiting your turn and grinding it out to earn a spot as a young guy, with the prevalence of NIL and the transfer portal leaving many jumping ship early in their collegiate career.
That's what former Alabama TE-WR Caleb Odom decided to do, and now he's set to visit a couple of key schools:
Caleb Odom to Visit Miami, Ole Miss
Odom only caught seven passes for 65 yards in his freshman season, but he played in five games, meaning he used a year of eligibility, opposed to if he had redshirted and played in only four games.
A bit of a tweener, the former five star is 6-5 and nearly 230 pound, meaning his place on the field was still being figured out in an Alabama offense that likes to attack vertically under HC Kalen DeBoer.
His talent and traits are undeniable, and one could hypothesize that had he stayed another year in Tuscaloosa, one of the brightest offensive minds in the sport would have found a way to utilize him appropriately.
Instead, it's a fresh start for Odom.
