It wasn't the prettiest of victories, but the Alabama Crimson Tide won their fifth straight Iron Bowl on Saturday.

But after a disappointing loss against Oklahoma, Alabama fell out of the 12 team playoff and was no longer in control of their own destiny.

That means they are going to need a lot of help to make it to the postseason, but that may have happened in the same time slot on Saturday:

Syracuse Upsets #6 Miami

On a Saturday that featured more than its fair share of massive upsets, (see OSU) none will be more beneficial than a potential trip to the playoffs on the backs of the Miami loss.

While the Hurricanes are ranked 6th in the latest CFP rankings, and only had two losses to Alabama's three in the regular season those two losses were to Georgia Tech and Syracuse.

Oh, and they don't have wins over Georgia, LSU, Missouri, and South Carolina, something the Tide boast on their resume.

But perhaps more consequential to Miami's postseason chances is that they have been knocked out of the ACC Championship game. So in a what have you done for me lately kind of sport, the last thing the committee will see is a Hurricanes loss against a middle-of-the-road ACC team, and as a double-digit favorite nonetheless.

So it's still a long shot for the Tide, and if they don't get in, it will be their own fault. But a Miami loss and a big South Carolina win over a Clemsom team that is ranked ahead of Alabama at #12 could go a long way in their return to the CFP.
