Kalen DeBoer continues to make his mark in QB recruiting with highly sought-after four-star putting Alabama in his top four
The Alabama Crimson Tide are in the middle of a quarterback competition. The Alabama Crimson Tide are in the middle of a quarterback competition.
With Ty Simpson and Keelon Russell battling it out for starter in 2025, the future is bright even if Simpson wins the job, with Russell waiting in the wings.
And it could be even brighter if a four-star turns Alabama's chances of landing him into a reality…
Derek Zammit down to four schools
Four-Star QB Derek Zammit is down to Schools, he tells me for on3recruits. The 6’1 200 QB from Wayne, NJ will choose between Alabama, Mississippi State, Washington, & Syracuse.
– Hayes Fawcett, On3
Zammit hails from New Jersey, making Syracuse the closest to home, but the allure of Kalen DeBoer and the Tide, (along with some other things) certainly have him considering a move south.
The 2025 season will be telling for Zammit. A class of 2026 recruit, if Russell wins the job and or is clearly the starter for 2026, Zammit may consider his other options.
But you can never have too many high-pedigree signal callers on your team. And with Kalen DeBoer, if he is recruiting you, at that position, you have to feel pretty good about yourself given his history not only as a head coach but with quarterbacks like Michael Penix.
The competition seems fairly easy for the Tide, given the current state of the other three schools in Zammit's top four, but NIL is the great equalizer in today's climate of college football.
Mississippi State will have a say in his decision, given their wealth of resources and location in the SEC. You can't count out the Orange, given the proximity of their campus to his home state, and Washington could be his best chance to start early.
So, we'll see if DeBoer's resume can sway the tide.
