The Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs square off in the game of the year thus far in college football.

Unfortunately, it's not this week but next, as come September 28th at 7:30 et, Bryant Denny Stadium at Nick Saban Field will be swarming with crimson and white.

So you would think that in a game of this magnitude, it's never too early to start preparations right?

Well for Alabama and HC Kalen DeBoer, that's true.

For Georgia and Kirby Smart…Not so much:

Alabama starts prep for Georgia, Bulldogs waiting for Thursday

"We haven't started on Alabama yet," Smart told the media on Wednesday. "We're working on us right now. As the week goes, we're honing in on that. We worked on other opponents yesterday, we'll work on other opponents today."

To be fair, Smart could be working some gamesmanship here, attempting to play some mind games with Kalen DeBoer and the rest of the Tide staff, which would be an interesting tactic after Saturday's close call against Kentucky. But you can kind of call his bluff when seeing Smart's answer about Ryan Williams:

“I obviously know who [Albama WR] Ryan [Williams] is,” Smart said. “He’s extremely talented. A kid we recruited. He came over and saw us several times. He’s a delightful personality. He’s fun to be around and a great kid.”

The statement from Smart is very different from the one that DeBoer gave just a few hours later when asked if the Tide had started preparing for the Bulldogs:

"Yeah, the staff is into that with game planning and the breakdowns, said DeBoer when asked if Georgia prep had already begun. "Our players, you know, doing some workouts. We'll get into a little bit and introduce, you know what we're going to see starting tomorrow and Friday. Then give our guys Saturday away from the facility. Get back to it again on Sunday."

We'll see whose strategy works best in less than two weeks.
