Alabama HC Kalen DeBoer's response about being ranked #1 in the nation is sure to make Nick Saban proud

Coming off a game that was a little too close for comfort according to fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide, the team sits atop the AP poll as the best team in the nation.

Led by the Heisman Trophy frontrunner, Jalen Milroe, it's clear that Alabama's statement win over the Georgia Bulldogs has had a big impact on how the nation views the Tide.

But at the Capstone, it's business as usual, with HC Kalen DeBoer approaching this week with a mindset that his predecessor would second:

Alabama not focusing on being ranked #1

"Yeah, I mean, we haven't talked about it one single time here as a team, we really haven't," said DeBoer when asked about the ranking. "We know that what's most important is where we're at, at the end. We covered a few different things during the summer just about, you know, whether it's rankings and how we're going to handle it, or even what the playoff picture looks like, and just discussing and being educated on what that's going to look like on July 2, one of our meetings that we had for the guys, before we went on the Fourth of July break. And, you know, as far as it goes for these guys, you know, the most important game is the next one, and we keep winning, it will all take care of itself. So that's what the focus is. That's where our attention is. And the guys really they get that because they've been through it before, and they understand it's a long season."

If that isn't textbook Sabanese, I'm not sure what it is. Coming off the massive adrenaline dump that is the victory over Georgia, the Tide face an easier challenge on paper against the Vanderbilt Commodores, but one that may be more difficult mentally.

It's easy to look ahead this time of year, with a massive showdown against the Tennessee Volunteers on the horizon. But taking any SEC opponent lightly is a quick way to find yourself at the bottom of the AP Poll, not the top.

DeBoer clearly has his guys prepared to combat any complacency.
