It's now or never for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
With HC Kalen DeBoer going as far as to admit that Saturday's game against the LSU Tigers is a must-win, everything is on the line for Bama.
So how does the team take down an explosive Tigers offense?
By doing what they have done best over the last three games:
Taking away the football:
Alabama looking to capitalize on Garrett Nussmeier's Aggressiveness
"I think he's [Garrett Nussmeier] an aggressive player, right? Sometimes you live by the sword and die by the sword a little bit," said Alabama DC Kane Wommack when asked about limiting Nussmeier. "We're a team that is certainly going to be focused on taking the ball off of people. We've got to be able to show enough looks and pictures and change some things up. Put eyes on the quarterback. Play man coverage. Do all the different things to be able to create some confusion for really good quarterbacks."
While the Tide's defense did not resemble what many had come to know over the past 15 years, the team shut out a top 25 Missouri team in their last matchup and have created 10, yes 10 turnovers in the past three games.
And prior to that, the Tide showed an ability to create dysfunction among what many believed to be the top QB in the country, Carson Beck:
"We were able to do that, even looking back to Carson Beck who's a great quarterback and has had a hard time … Hasn't turned the ball over very much," added Wommack on the team's ability to create takeaways. "If you can find creative ways to give them different looks and pictures, you're going to give yourself an opportunity to take the ball away. At the same time, this dude [Nussmeier] has made a lot of plays being the guy he is. He's an aggressive player…
"…Think about Brett Favre, [he] threw a lot of picks in his career, but he also made a hell of a lot of plays. This guy has really done some similar things in that regard. Some of that you live with a little bit as an offense, but from a defensive perspective, we need to make sure … Taking the ball off people is really the identity of who we are as a defense. That needs to show up on Saturday night."
Alabama WR Ryan Williams suddenly has a lot more on his plate following season-ending injury to teammate
The Tide may need Williams to hit another level.
