If you're wondering how Alabama misses the playoff despite being ranked ahead of Boise State in May's predictions, well it's because the CFP committee doesn't believe in allowing the highest-ranking teams into the postseason. Not that UA would have made it at 17 anyway.
The four highest ranked conference champions receive the first round byes and top four seeds. The highest remaining ranked teams fill out seeds five through twelve (including the fifth highest ranked conference champion).

The truth of the matter is, if UA misses the CFP yet again, heads will roll in Tuscaloosa and that starts with Kalen DeBoer. It might be a time of transition, but the year two tolerance level will be a lot lower than year one, and that's despite the question marks at QB.
But avoiding May's prophecy wont be easy. Not only are the Tide experiencing key departures like Jalen Milroe, Tyler Booker and Malachi Moore among others, but they have incurred a lot of losses in their WR corps, though Ryan Williams is still on the team and figures to be even better in his sophomore season.
So for the sake of starting all over again, Alabama fans had better hope May is dead wrong.
