If it feels like far too long since the Alabama Crimson Tide was on the football field, it’s because it has been. But the idle weeks are over, and throughout the next month, UA doesn’t have to leave the state of Alabama.

Not only does that put the team in a great spot to win out, but it also helps Alabama’s CFP seeding, which looked pretty good after the initial release.

But to keep the ball rolling, Alabama has to first take care of a new-look LSU Tigers. Well, captain and inside LB Deontae Lawson sang the praises of the Tigers, while throwing some inadvertent shade at the rest of Alabama’s opponents.

Deontae Lawson says LSU has the best skill players Alabama has seen all season

“It’s probably the best skill guys that we’ve played all year,” Lawson said via the Bama Central YouTube channel on Tuesday. “They [are] fast. They [are] explosive. They can turn a drag route into a touchdown. We gotta be very detailed and fundamental on how we swarm to the ball… It’ll be a great challenge for us, for sure.”

If you think for one second that the Georgia Bulldogs, who Alabama beat, and if the playoff started today, would likely play again in their first matchup, aren’t going to use that as bulletin board material, you’re kidding yourself.

Obviously, it was inadvertent, and what Lawson said about LSU is very true. Remember, the whole reason that LSU fired Brian Kelly is because this team, but more specifically the offense, has names like Garrett Nussmeier, Caden Durham, Barion Brown, and Zavion Thomas, among others.

And now LSU has the interim coach bump, instead of the dark cloud that was lingering over the school with Kelly in charge. So yes, Lawson is right to be on alert. The same way that Kalen DeBoer has been, and the same way that Ty Simpson has been.

Because it would be a shame to take all the momentum that Alabama has built and throw it away with a loss against one of the teams that the Crimson Tide should beat, and handily.
