The College Football Playoff committee released the first rankings of the season on Tuesday night, and there was no surprise as to where the Alabama Crimson Tide were ranked.

Situated at 4th overall, Alabama’s ranking by the CFP committee mirrors its rankings in the coaches and AP poll.

But it was the rest of the top 25 that gives Alabama an advantage going forward.

Alabama boasts 4 top 25 wins in initial College Football Playoff Rankings

Alabama has four wins over top 25 teams including the Georgia Bulldogs (5), Vanderbilt Commodores (16), Missouri Tigers (22), and Tennessee Volunteers (25). They also have a date in two weeks against the 12th ranked Oklahoma Sooners.

The big takeaway, is that no one boasts the resume that Alabama does. It’s fair to shay that if not for the Week 1 disaster against FSU, Alabama would be considered for the first overall seed. And with games left against the LSU Tigers this week, Oklahoma as stated, and the Auburn Tigers to close the season, there is still some ground to make up from 4th overall.

So time will tell where things end up, but right now, Alabama would be awaiting the winner of Memphis and Georgia as they sit with a first round bye. We’ll see if Alabama can continue to press forward and build off what is a strong initial set of rankings for the Tide.
