How to use the NFL Playoff Predictor

  1. See every team's odds. We play out the rest of the season 10,000 times and count how often each team makes the playoffs, wins its division, earns the No. 1 seed and wins the Super Bowl.
  2. Pick any game. Tap a team to make it the winner. Both teams' strength updates the way it would after a real result, and every team's odds update across the league.
  3. Sim the rest. Use "Sim week" or "Sim the season" to fill in the games you haven't picked. Your picks stay locked.
  4. Watch the standings move. Every standing uses the NFL's official tiebreakers: head-to-head, division and conference record, common games, strength of victory and the rest.
  5. Pick the playoffs. See the Bracket shows the projected 14-team field. Tap any team to send it through; the bracket reseeds after the Wild Card round, just like the real one.
  6. Go deeper. Division pages show each race and how its ties get broken. Team pages show what your team needs, who to root for and where it would pick in the draft.
  7. Share it. Copy a link to your scenario, or download a ready-to-post graphic of your team's odds, the playoff picture or your bracket.

Frequently asked questions

How does the NFL Playoff Predictor work?

It plays out the rest of the 2026 NFL season 10,000 times. Each game's odds come from the betting line when one is posted and from A to Z Sports team ratings otherwise, with each team's strength varying from one simulated season to the next. Major roster moves, like a trade for a star player, are factored in by hand until the results and betting lines catch up, and the team's page notes it while the move is recent. Every simulated season applies the NFL's official tiebreakers to set the division winners and the seven seeds in each conference, then plays out the reseeded playoffs. A team's odds are the share of simulated seasons in which it gets there.

What is the 2026 NFL playoff format?

Seven teams from each conference make the playoffs: the four division winners (seeds 1-4, by record) and the three best remaining teams (seeds 5-7). Only the No. 1 seed gets a first-round bye. After the Wild Card round the bracket reseeds, so the No. 1 seed plays the lowest-seeded team left. The conference champions meet in Super Bowl LXI (Feb 14 · SoFi Stadium).

Can I pick the winners of games?

Yes. Tap a team in any game to make it the winner, and every team's playoff, division, No. 1 seed and Super Bowl odds update with your pick. You can also sim a whole week or the rest of the season and undo any pick.

How often are the playoff odds updated?

The morning after every game day (Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday games), plus a midweek update for new betting lines. This version was updated Tue, Nov 3 with results through Week 8.

Are clinched and eliminated marks official?

A team gets a clinched (x, y, z) or eliminated (e) mark only when records alone prove it, with every remaining game considered. When a clinch depends on a tiebreaker, the NFL may announce it a game or two earlier.

How are NFL tiebreakers handled?

Every simulated season applies the NFL's official tie-breaking procedures for division titles, wild cards and seeding, in order: head-to-head, division and conference record, common games, strength of victory, strength of schedule, points rankings, net points and a coin toss. Replaying every season from 2002 through 2025 reproduces every official division finish and playoff seed.

Can I build and share my own playoff bracket?

Yes. Tap See the Bracket on any page. Your picks shape the 14-team field; tap any team to send it through and the bracket reseeds after the Wild Card round. Download your bracket as an image, or copy a link that keeps your picks.

Does it project the 2027 NFL Draft order?

Yes. Every simulated season also sets the draft order by the NFL's rules, so each team page shows where it would pick on average and its chances at a top-5 or No. 1 pick. It's draft position by record, before any pick trades.

How accurate are the odds?

We replayed every season from 2006 through 2025 from Weeks 4, 8 and 12 with only what was known at the time (1,920 team forecasts). Teams given 60-80% made the playoffs 69% of the time, teams given 20-40% made it 27% of the time, and teams above 95% made it 99% of the time. Odds are odds, though: a 70% team misses about three times in ten.

Is the predictor free?

Yes. It's free to use and no account is needed. Your picks are saved on your device and in the link you share.
