Alabama WR Germie Bernard drops a worrisome admission ahead of his return to Oklahoma for College Football Playoff
Germie Bernard feels better about going to Norman this year.
Germie Bernard has been the straw who stirs the drink for the Alabama Crimson Tide’s offense. After transferring in with Kalen DeBoer last season, he fully entrenched himself in Alabama’s offense.
He became a player whom Alabama began manufacturing touches for. Lining up at WR, RB, even taking snaps at quarterback in the wildcat. You name it, and Bernard has done it this season. To beat the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman, he will need to do more of the same and find a way to keep the light out of his eyes.
Germie Bernard says the lights got in his eyes against Oklahoma last year
“This time around, we know it’s gonna be cold. Their (Sooners) lights, it kind of got me last time that we played, the lights kind of were kind of, I don’t know, in a weird position,” said Bernard via the Alabama Crimson Tide YouTube channel.
“Then just the field condition. I think our equipment staff has done a great job at putting us in the right cleats and whatnot, so we won’t have that issue. And then just from there, it’s just playing football.”
DeBoer and the Crimson Tide are 0-2 in the last two contests against Oklahoma. This year, OU came in during homecoming and spoiled the celebration after a field goal debacle from Alabama that would have won the Crimson Tide the game if Connor Talty had made it.
Last year’s game was very different. OU wasn’t viewed the same way the Sooners are this year. Oklahoma finished the year with seven losses and was still in the middle of rebuilding the brand under HC Brent Venables.
Yet Alabama got stonewalled and blown out in Norman, losing 24-3 in a sloppy game from head to toe. It was the third loss of the season, keeping Alabama out of the College Football Playoff, and it kicked off questions regarding whether DeBoer was the right man for the job.
So we’ll see how the Tide responds under the lights in Norman this go round. The week off should have served wonders mentally for players like Ty Simpson and Ryan Williams, and we know what it’s done physically for players like Jam Miller.
Now it’s time to see how Alabama handles the rematch.
