When Alex Golesh became the head coach for the Auburn Tigers, he quickly made it clear that major changes were coming. Since then, there’s been mostly bad news on the transfer portal front. The team has lost nearly 40 scholarship players, including top talents like wide receiver Cam Coleman and half of their starting defense from 2025.

However, there’s finally beginning to be some good news on the player acquisition front. Many believed that this day would come, and some even considered it an inevitability, but it looks like the Auburn Tigers are indeed about to land their transfer portal target quarterback in Byrum Brown from USF.

Byrum Brown predicted by key experts to land with Auburn

Byrum Brown to Auburn seemed like an easy landing spot to predict once Alex Golesh became the Tigers head coach and his former star quarterback at USF entered the transfer portal. Still, with each passing day that Brown didn’t commit to Auburn it seemed more and more likely that one of the many other interested programs was going to pull him away. It doesn’t look like that is the case anymore. As of Saturday morning, two of the most plugged in sources in the entire recruiting industry (Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong) have officially logged predictions for Byrum Brown to land with Auburn.

A to Z Sports sources have yet to 100% confirm that this is definitely happening, but it looks like Auburn is set to land the most important transfer portal addition of the cycle for their team.

Brown totaled 42 touchdowns this past season, tallying over 3000 passing yards, 1000 rushing yards, and leading USF to a 9-3 record in the regular season. Brown is widely considered one of the most dynamic playmakers in all of college football and brings with him over 2,300 snaps off offensive experience at the FBS level.

Brown may not present the long-term upside of five star quarterback and freshman Deuce Knight, who just departed for the transfer portal, but he does offer a clear path for Auburn to compete immediately. That’s something Auburn fans are craving desperately. The Tigers haven’t won more than six games in a season since 2019 when Gus Malzahn was still head coach and Bo Nix was still a true freshman. It’s clearly time for Auburn to get back their competitive ways with a revamped offensive system that lets a dual threat quarterback thrive. That’s exactly what Alex Golesh should be able to do once the Byrum Brown news is official.
