Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers have been on a roll as of late when it comes to recruiting. They just landed one of the best recruits in the country in wide receiver Jase Mathews, and are continuing to solidify an elite class for 2026.

But their work isn’t quite done yet.

There are reports that Auburn could very well land one of the best players in the country. Yes, this is a program that had a bit of an embarrassing season last year, but that doesn’t mean they can’t recruit.

In fact, they are in a legit battle with some of the biggest programs in the country.

Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers are in a race for Bralan Womack

Bralan Womack is a five-star safety from Hartfield Academy in Flowood, Mississippi, and one of the best players in the entire country when it comes to the 2026 class, and definitely one of the best remaining guys. At 5’11” and around 185-200 pounds, he’s ranked as the No. 1 safety and No. 2 player in Mississippi by 247Sports, with a top-30 national ranking.

His junior season stats—39 tackles, eight interceptions, 54 receptions for 1,045 yards, and 13 touchdowns—earned him the Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year award. That’s easily a guy that Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers need to help get not only their program back on track, but the defense as well.

Womack has over 31 college offers but has narrowed his choices to Ohio State, Texas A&M, Auburn, and Florida, with a commitment date of August 23, 2025. Ohio State is the favorite, with a 76.8% chance per On3, due to their history of producing NFL defensive backs like Marshon Lattimore and Denzel Ward.

But, Auburn has a chance due to proximity, as Auburn is about four hours away from his hometown, which would be the closest of any of his remaining schools. And, why wouldn’t he be interested in the Tigers after seeing how they have been recruiting lately?

Womack visited Florida on May 30, Texas A&M on June 6, Auburn on June 13, and Ohio State on June 20, so there is a chance that this could hurt the Tigers, Ohio State being his last visit. The Tigers just landed elite wide receiver Jase Mathews, and are on the road to getting this thing turned around, especially when it comes to the recruiting side of things.

Getting Bralan Womack, even if it feels like they don’t have a chance, would be huge. And, remember, in this day and age of college football, crazier things have happened. Don’t count out Hugh Freeze and the Tigers.
