Deuce Knight eyeing bizarre first visit following the former Auburn QB entering the transfer portal
Auburn quarterback Deuce Knight has entered the transfer portal, eyes interesting first visit.
In a very unsurprising move, Auburn freshman quarterback Deuce Knight entered the transfer portal on Tuesday. This was a move that had rumblings behind the scenes for some time now.
With the Tigers playing Knight in just two games (one start against Mercer), there was a strong chance he would have made the same move even if head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff weren’t fired. The talented 6-4, 217-pound signal caller is now on the market, and he is expected to generate a ton of interest from across college football.
With Knight now available, there will be plenty of schools mentioned for the talented dual-threat quarterback. You can bet that LSU and head coach Lane Kiffin will have some buzz with a previous relationship while at Ole Miss. The Rebels will once again get a look from the Mississippi native. There are several programs across the SEC that will do their homework on Knight. The talent is off the charts, and you can bet that interest will be high.
While the betting favorites will come from the SEC, there is an early dark horse suitor to know for Knight. According to a source, Knight is expected to take his first recruiting trip this weekend after the portal officially opens on Jan. 2: Boston College. While the Eagles sound like a bizarre potential landing spot for the talented quarterback, there is a strong relationship up in Chestnut Hill to consider.
Former Auburn recruiting staffer Kenyatta Watson is now the general manager for Boston College. Watson is a huge reason Knight ended up with the Tigers after originally committing to Notre Dame.
While that relationship doesn’t solidify that Knight will be an Eagle next season under head coach Bill O’Brien, it certainly gives them an interesting selling point. The fact that it would be his first trip speaks volumes to their chances, but you can bet a bidding war will be on the horizon.
Deuce Knight’s background
While Knight started just one football game during his Auburn career, it was electric. It was just FCS Mercer, but Knight played brilliantly. He completed 15 of 20 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns. Knight also rushed for 162 yards and four scores on only nine carries as a runner.
Knight finished the 2025 recruiting class as a five-star player according to the 247 Sports Composite ranking. That rating had him pegged as the No. 28 overall player, the No. 5 quarterback, and the No. 1 player from the state of Mississippi for the 2025 recruiting class.
That final ranking came off a senior year where Knight threw for 2,067 yards and 25 touchdowns, along with another 450 yards and 12 scores on the ground, despite missing several games due to injury.
There was a long list of impressive suitors who pursued Knight heavily. Some of those top programs included the Fighting Irish, the Tigers, Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Oregon, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, TCU, Indiana, Louisville, South Carolina, Colorado, Vanderbilt, Washington, and Virginia Tech, among others.
