Now that all official summer campus visits have concluded top four and five star college football recruits are setting commitment dates left and right. The recruiting calendar continues to accelerate as players are looking to lock in their roster spots earlier every off-season. One of the most highly coveted wide receiver recruits in the nation, Derek Meadows actually moved his commitment date up to July 13th, leading many to believe they had figured his destination out this past week.

However, according to Blair Angulo of 247Sports, Meadows just moved his commitment date again, now committing on July 20th on 247Sports YouTube channel at 3pm ET that day.

Meadows has been perceived to be a long time Notre Dame lean by those I've spoken with, but in recent weeks there's real buzz he could go with Michigan, LSU, Alabama, or Georgia. So where will this five star wide receiver land? And what makes him so special?

Derek Meadows, WR Bishop Gorman

In far less than a year Derek Meadows rose from fringe four star status to five star recruit according to 247Sports. Meadows brings an absurd size, speed, and flexibility combination at 6'5", 200 pounds with a yards per reception mark over 26 yards last fall. Meadows stars for the storied Bishop Gorman high school football program in Las Vegas, Nevada, and had flashed in prior seasons, but then exploded in 2023.

Meadows pulled in over half of his receptions for touchdowns, proving to be one of the most explosive wide receivers in the nation, able to score from anywhere. He brings great play strength to finish at the point of the catch and afterwards, but creates separation against small quick defenders as well. Wherever he goes Meadows should be an immediate contributor as a freshman.

Predicted Landing Spot for Meadows

Meadows narrowed down his recruitment heading into the summer to Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, and Notre Dame. He then visited all five of them in person in the span of less than four weeks. So, which school will he choose?

Notre Dame staff (both Mike Denbrock and Mike Brown) have been recruiting him strongly for quite some time now, even when they were with different programs, so it makes sense as to why many experts have pegged him as a lean towards the Fighting Irish. However, insiders that I've spoken to familiar with Meadows' most recent developments suggest he may be trending towards the SEC.

Although Michigan just won the national championship and met with Meadows this spring on top of his official this summer, the changes in staff and personnel there seem to have them trailing the other major players in this recruitment.

All three of Alabama, Georgia, and LSU have recent track records of sending star wide receivers to the NFL, and have all three been in consistent contact with Meadows as they hope to lock in their key playmaking spots before the season starts (to my knowledge).

However, Alabama might have the current edge as the initial move of his commitment date was apparently somewhat tied to recent and urgent communication from the Crimson Tide. LSU and Georgia are both very likely still in it here late, but my bet is that we see Kalen DeBoer continue his recruiting dominance in his first offseason with the Tide by adding an elite five star talent in Meadows.
