After the emergence of DJ Lagway this past season, the Florida Gators focused on revamping the wide receiver room.

They lost Chimere Dike and Elijah Badger to the NFL Draft and needed to find some talent to strengthen the position. In December, they accomplished that tenfold. The Gators added J. Michael Sturdivant in the transfer portal and two high-profile recruits in Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III.

Eugene Wilson receives high praise

Along with the additions that the Gators have made, they are set to get back one of their best playmakers on the outside.

Wide receiver Eugene Wilson III missed time last season with knee and hip injuries. He tried to come back but they ended his season. Pro Football Focus' Max Chadwick recently compiled a list of the top 10 returning wide receivers and named Wilson to the list at number 10.

Wilson played in just four games this past season following knee and hip surgeries.

His electric true freshman season was enough to earn him a spot on this list, though, with his 81.5 PFF receiving grade that year being a top-20 mark among Power Four wideouts, as well as his 480 yards after the catch and 18 forced missed tackles. Wilson was utilized mostly underneath during his freshman year with a conservative quarterback in Graham Mertz, but that should change next year with a gunslinger in DJ Lagway under center. Expect Wilson to bounce back in a major way.

Wilson's ability is going to go a long way in elevating Lagway to the superstar status that is bound to occur. Wilson can do a little bit of everything from taking pop passes to the house and getting open on all three levels of the field.

Lagway taking that next step is the biggest thing that the Gators need to evolve into the blue blood they have been in the past.
