DJ Lagway takes positive step forward during fall camp and it will maximize the Florida Gators to start the season
The latest DJ Lagway injury news is huge for the start of the 2025 season.
The biggest concern right now for the Florida Gators has been the health of quarterback DJ Lagway. He dealt with shoulder and hernia injuries this offseason, and parlayed that into a calf injury going into fall camp.
While Lagway was throwing early on during camp, he wasn’t quite a full participant. That aspect has changed, as Lagway started throwing in 11-on-11s during practice, per head coach Billy Napier.
DJ Lagway returns to 11-on-11 drills in practice
This is a good thing for Lagway and the Gators. Not only is it a positive step for Lagway’s recovery, but the first team offense can work with their starting quarterback going into the season opener against Long Island.
Napier was excited to have Lagway back, as I’m sure everyone on the team was.
“He took team reps today, which was good. Obviously he was hitting (his throws). He had a great full stack of throws last week four days in a row, didn’t scrimmage but did quite a bit of work that day, so yeah, he’s feeling much better and he’s moving around well.”
This is great stuff from Napier, as an update about Lagway is huge for everyone in the program. Ultimately, they are used to having injuries, especially with the Gators’ offense.
“Every time I turn around, I hear about a guy who’s missing training camp or missed OTAs or can’t throw until next week or whatever. So look, injuries are part of the game, I think you got to control what you can control, you gotta be process oriented. It is what it is. We gotta help DJ. ‘Hey, look, you can’t control that, right? You can’t control the work you do today, where you’re investing your time.’”
The wide receiver position is still looking for multiple players to get healthy, which will inspire even more confidence in the Gators going into a crucial season.
