Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier is still on the hot seat, but it cooled down quite a bit on Saturday after they upset the Texas Longhorns by a score of 29-21.

It was a surprise for many people that the Gators won, but this was exactly the team many expected to see throughout the 2025 season. They were explosive on offense and menacing on defense.

One of the biggest things that they weren’t expecting to see was a team playing hard for Napier, but as hot as his seat is, the players love him.

Billy Napier knows they can’t have a letdown

It’s that belief in Napier that was a key catalyst in getting the win over Texas, but belief will only take you so far. It’s also important after an emotional win like the Gators had over Texas to not have a letdown game.

“Yeah, I’m hopeful that we won’t have that issue,” said Napier about avoiding a letdown game. “In my opinion, I think this has got a chance to be a multiplier, and I’m hopeful that it will. I talked a little bit about that in the locker room after the game, obviously yesterday, with the assistant coaches that had a chance to be around players, and then we’ll start working on that today.”

It’s essential the Gators find a way to build up momentum like they did at the end of last season when they beat LSU and Ole Miss in back-to-back weeks. They ran off four games in a row and went into the offseason with that winning streak.

Napier understands what needs to be done

“But in general, we have handled adversity well. Now we’ve got to handle some success,” said Napier. “So it’s all about earning the right to win throughout the week. I think you have to prepare a certain way and then ultimately get in position where you can play with some confidence and execute. So I think we got a group that understands that, and I’m hopeful that this will be a multiplier and maybe not a distraction.”

The Gators didn’t just get the win; they had three players win Player of the Week awards, and they will need similar performances from them to get another win on Saturday night.
