The Florida Gators currently sit at 3-5, and are getting close to missing a bowl game for the first time since 2023 when then head coach Billy Napier was still in charge. It’s been a tough road for the Gators, but interim head coach Billy Gonzales had them playing really well. They were incredibly close to beating the Georgia Bulldogs, but they couldn’t seal the deal.

As the Gators move forward in their season, they first start by taking on the Kentucky Wildcats, who have been a tough opponent for them over the last decade under head coach Mark Stoops. It won’t be the easiest game either for the Gators, especially with the injuries on the offensive side of the football.

Florida Gators decimated by injuries at wide receiver

Right after the Gators loss to Georgia, we learned that wide receiver Dallas Wilson was going to miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury. He left Saturday’s game and they were already missing Aidan Mizell and Vernell Brown III. Saturday’s game isn’t going to be much easier, as the Gators are now set to be without wide receiver Tre Wilson against the Wildcats.

Wilson had himself a humungous game for the Gators against the Bulldogs, and it certainly felt that he was unleashed in the first game without Napier calling the plays, catching nine passes for 121 yards and a 40-yard touchdown. Not having him is a brutal loss for the offense, especially with Brown and Mizell listed as questionable.

The game is going to fall on quarterback DJ Lagway to carry the offense, along with running back Jadan Baugh. They were both good against the Bulldogs, and will be heavily relied upon against a Kentucky team that has been up and down.

If they step up, the Gators can get one step closer to being bowl eligible.
