One of the most important positions in the history of the Florida Gators football program has been wide receiver.

Steve Spurrier’s teams in the 1990s had a ton of receivers who were difference makers. Chris Doering was the first, then came Ike Hilliard, Jacquez Green, and Jabbar Gaffney. The 2000s saw Chad Jackson, Percy Harvin, and Riley Cooper. The position has been less impactful since the departure of Urban Meyer, but Ricky Pearsall and Demarcus Robinson have been serious contributors in the NFL.

Florida Gators land visit from five-star WR Easton Royal

The 2026 Gators roster has a really talented bunch of wide receivers. Dallas Wilson, Vernell Brown III, and Eric Singleton Jr. is primed to be one of the best trios in the nation, with three true freshmen in Davian Groce, Justin Williams, and Marquez Daniel primed to make an impact.

They aren’t shying away from adding top recruits in the 2027 class, and that continued with five-star wide receiver Easton Royal committing to visiting Gainesville June 11-13.

Royal committed to the Texas Longhorns on Thanksgiving weekend and is currently the No. 1 wide receiver and seventh overall recruit per the Rivals’ Industry Ranking. His scouting report is that of an explosive player, as he’s been timed running a 10.3-second 100 meters as a sophomore and has the twitch you want to see as a recruit at the position. He’s also incredibly young, with his 18th birthday in July right before the start of his first fall camp.

Being able to add a player with the pedigree of Royal would be a huge coup for head coach Jon Sumrall, who hosted Royal on a visit to Tulane once already. It would be massive for the Gators short and long-term. You can never have too many wide receivers at this level, especially in the era of the transfer portal.
