We find ourselves in an interesting situation regarding the future of the Florida Gators.

Head coach Billy Napier has seemingly been on his last leg for over a year, and continues to survive due to the administration being in disarray. Even so, there are a lot of rumors floating around about who could replace him.

The one coach who continues to be linked to the Gators is Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin, and it feels like a match made in heaven.

Lane Kiffin fans flame of him taking Florida Gators HC job

Until the Gators either choose to keep Napier or Kiffin, the flames will continue to be fanned, and Kiffin is leaning into it in a major way. He’s throwing out tweets of the Gators team slogan, “spot the ball,” and leaning into the rumors.

In classic Kiffin fashion, he couldn’t stay silent about it. He went on Pardon My Take and explained he started wearing the visor to emulate Steve Spurrier.

“I was like, I want to be Steve Spurrier,” said Kiffin. “When I watched him and his offenses and the visor and kind of the way he would throw jabs at other coaches and teams, I was like, ‘Steve Spurrier is the man.’ That’s what I want to be. That’s where I started the visor thing, and probably started some of the comments, maybe of other programs too, yes.”

There hasn’t been anyone like Spurrier since he left the coaching profession, and Kiffin appears to be the guy. He’s always got a quote for something, including some impressive ones from his win against the LSU Tigers on Saturday. That includes one where he mentions LSU LB Whit Weeks, who conveniently announced that he started dating Kiffin’s daughter earlier in the week.

Kiffin is the guy that many Gators fans want to take over, and a lot of the reason is due to the resemblance he has to Spurrier in both demeanor and being an offensive genius.

If the Gators pull off the hire of Kiffin, we can look back at this interview as a potential reason.
