The Florida Gators have one of the best head coaching jobs in the nation. Yes, things haven’t been great when it comes to win-loss record, especially with five losing seasons in the past 13 years, but there is a lot to like about what the Gators offer.

In the last few years under former head coach Billy Napier, there was a major focus on the infrastructure of the program, using substantial money to bolster the facilities and the NIL collective. Things aren’t perfect, but they can compete with the best in the nation in all aspects of being a winning team.

Lane Kiffin indirectly praises Florida Gators head coaching job

Ahead of Monday’s matchup with the Ole Miss Rebels, head coach Lane Kiffin was asked directly about the Gators’ head coaching job and gave a vanilla answer. It was when he was asked about what makes a great head coaching job that he talked positively about the program and how things have changed with the so-called “blue bloods.”

“You can’t stockpile [meaning the] Blue Bloods you want to call it or refer to it,” Kiffin said. “But there are still things there where you’re still going to struggle to beat those guys. Kids are still recruited, and they see size of stadiums and tradition and Heismans and national championships, and then your location to talent. So, I think all those are in there, but it’s slid a little over time. I think when that question was probably: What is your assistant coach’s pool? Now it’s: What is your player pool?”

These may feel like words when it comes to the Gators’ job, but it’s exactly what makes the Florida job so attractive. It has multiple Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks and three national championships since 1996. When you have that, even if the last one was 17 years ago, it becomes a major selling point.

Plus, there is the running joke where you can drive an hour in any direction in the state of Florida and you’ll come across a handful of four and five stars. That kind of recruiting base helps a ton, especially because those kids grow up wanting to go to your school.

Kiffin is 100% right. If you truly want to compete for a national championship, you need every advantage at your disposal. The Gators have just that, whereas Ole Miss doesn’t.

The next few weeks will continue to be interesting.
