Florida lost out on transfer portal commitment to Washington

On Christmas Eve, the Gators were predicted to land Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook via the transfer portal. It would have been a huge addition to a rebuilt wide receiver room.

Unfortunately, that prediction didn't land, as Cook announced his commitment to the University of Washington.

The fit makes sense for Cook. True freshman Demond Williams earned the starting job partway through the season and will be the guy next year. Cook will be the likely starter opposite of Denzel Boston and fortify a wide receiver group that is set to lose Jeremiah Hunter and Giles Jackson.

For the Gators, it's a decision that hurts them a bit but isn't a devastating one in the slightest. They will still have Trey Wilson, Dallas Wilson, Sturdivant, Aidan Mizell, four-star commit Vernell Brown, and Marcus Burke.

DJ Lagway is still primed to have great weapons to throw to next season.
