Florida State Seminoles get bad news when they can’t afford it most regarding a starting playmaker vs. Wake Forrest
The Florida State Seminoles could be without Jayvan Boggs against Wake Forrest.
The Florida State Seminoles are not really in a position to lose any more games that they should win. They were 2-10 last year, and have now lost four straight games this season, all games they should have won based on what we saw from the Seminoles when they beat the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Just to add to it all, the Noles will likely be without one of their starting playmakers against Wake Forrest in wide receiver Jayvan Boggs.
Wake Forrest’s defensive stats in 2025
- Opponent Points Allowed: 132 total points across 7 games, averaging 18.9 points per game.
- Total Defense (Yards): Held SMU to 246 yards of total offense.
- Third-Down Defense: Limited SMU to 4/17 on third-down conversions (23.5%).
Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell talks Jayvan Boggs being out vs. Wake Forrest.
“Unfortunately, he’ll [Jayvan Boggs] be a guy who will be out this week. Going into this week, he’s kind of had an up and down the last few weeks. We were hopeful that we were over the hump with it, but he had a little setback, and we’ll see how he progresses. We’re going to push this week to work and get ready. He’s one that [I’m] pretty certain will be out this week,” Norvell told reporters this week.
In recent weeks, Micahi Danzy has stepped up as an elite playmaker with the vertical threat he brings. He, along with Elijah Moore, will have to step up even more to replace what Boggs brings. Boggs is a great kind of do-it-all receiver, who’s extremely athletic, a good contested catch guy, and someone who can go get the deep ball as well as make plays in the screen game.
He’s not the best wide receiver on the team, but he’s well on his way to being in a few years, as Boggs is a key player as a true freshman. Lawayne McCoy is also a player who could be expected to play a much bigger role.
Luckily, Boggs hasn’t played a ton this season due to some injuries, so his production won’t be too hard to replace. Boggs only has five catches on the season, but the threat of having him on the field is what makes defenses change the way they play. The Noles have a pretty good receiver room overall with some decent depth to it, though.
Saturday will be huge for Norvell’s career at Florida State.
