Coming into this week, the Florida State Seminoles were in a weird place. We all know this team is capable of winning big games because they did it in Week 1 against the Alabama Crimson Tide. However, they had lost several games in a row to teams they should have beaten. That, along with last year’s 2-10 season, has put head coach Mike Norvell on the hot seat.

He’s been on the hot seat for some time now, but this last four-game losing streak has really put his job in jeopardy. After the big-time win over Wake Forest, several of the players made a statement regarding their head coach.

Seminoles players love head coach Mike Norvell

“I know where the dude’s heart is at, man,” safety Earl Little said. “Us being with the man every day, we know where his heart is at. I’m proud to be coached by him, and we all love him.”

Norvell doesn’t have the wins he should have as of late, with losses like the Pitt loss at home and the Stanford loss two weeks ago being some of the worst ones in years. However, he is a player-coach. He recruits well and has a great personal relationship with these guys. And that does mean something.

We have seen him coach well before, like the 13-0 season where they should have been a College Football Playoff team, but they weren’t. The losses they have endured the last few weeks are a combination of so many things, whether it’s the players, coaches, or whatever you want to blame it on. The wins are also on the players and coaches.

“Fire coach? Nah, nah. Coach Norvell has been absolutely awesome and everything and more,” QB Tommy Castellanos told reporters after the win. “Everybody blames the coaches? That’s on us…tonight, we showed, I’m glad we got that done for him. It’s New November.”

Now, Wake Forest is not a good football team, despite what their record said before this game. This is a team that barely beat Kennesaw State 10-9. Granted, they have played much better football since then, but they’re not a team that was on their way to the CFP by any means. So, everything that happened on the field on Saturday should be taken with a grain of salt.

But man, did Norvell need this win.
