Former Georgia Bulldogs center David Andrews delivered an emotional NFL retirement speech and expressed heartfelt gratitude to his alma mater.

"Being a Bulldog was the only thing I thought I ever wanted to be," Andrews said. "My time at Georgia will always be special to me. It's where I grew into a young man. And the development I got on the field helped me more than I could imagine when transitioning here in New England."

Andrews spent four seasons at the University of Georgia (2011–2014) as the Dawgs’ starting center during a dominant era featuring star running backs Todd Gurley, Sony Michel, and Nick Chubb. Over that time, he earned Georgia’s Vince Dooley Most Valuable Player Award, was named second‑team All‑SEC by the AP, and capped his college career as a finalist for the prestigious Rimington Trophy, given to the nation’s top center.

Andrews, who then joined the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2015, became the heart of the team's offensive line over ten seasons, contributing to two Super Bowl wins.

Throughout his NFL career, Andrews was recognized for his leadership and resilience, overcoming health challenges, including a 2019 season missed due to blood clots and a shoulder injury in 2024. Despite being released by the Patriots in March 2025, he chose to retire rather than play for another team, stating, "I wanted to finish it here, and I did."

In his closing remarks, Andrews expressed appreciation for the game of football, saying, "This game has given me so much over the last 26 years… You've taught me so much about myself and life while letting me get to play a child's game and call it a job."

Andrews now joins former Georgia wide receiver Chris Conley, another Bulldog alum, who also officially hung up his cleats this offseason.
